The restaurant is easy to get to, and the space is quite spacious. Inside, the decor is ornate and the furnishings are really unique. For drinks, I ordered the Beer Spritz and an Iced Tea, both tasted amazing. For food, we tried a few mains (like the Smoked Duck Breast and Pan-Fried Cod). The real highlight was dessert, the Chocolate Spiced Pudding was absolutely delicious. The drinks and dessert definitely stood out. The service was professional yet friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable with a well-organized layout. Even though the prices are on the higher side, the great drinks, excellent dessert, and overall experience still made it feel worthwhile.

In the middle of Mitte close to all popular places you can find one of the oldest restaurants. We came to dinner when outside the weather was very cold. The warm atmosphere and nice furniture, was added value. We ordered the vienna schnitzel - that was reasonable to eat, nice small salad. The smoked duck salad was testy. The duck was a little bit far from being smoked, but fresh. The fish soup was actually from my point of view the vegetable soup and pieces of salmon were added inside. The expectation from fish soup that everything is cooked together… The wine was very testy, good choice of Pinot nour and Merlo.

Fischer & Lustig in Berlin’s Nikolaiviertel feels like the glossy upgrade to “home cooking,” perfectly aware of how photogenic onion rings look in backlit glory—and the place stages it all with precision. Nestled between the Nikolaikirche, cobblestones, and chandelier vibes, it’s as if someone ran Grandma’s recipe book through a Pinterest filter and hosted a moodboard workshop. You sit under old arcades, maritime decor blending ship’s cabin with city hotel lobby—a touch over-conceptualized, but undeniably cozy. Kitchen The menu reads like northern Germany for the initiated: labskaus, herb matjes, Königsberger meatballs, plus steaks and schnitzels for those treating “fish restaurant” as mere backdrop. Craft-wise, it’s solid to genuinely good—crisp schnitzels, well-cooked fish, prettily plated—but it prioritizes reliability over quiet kitchen experiments. Portions range from “just right” to “could’ve used one more bite,” with pricing firmly in Berlin-Mitte’s comfortable zone. Service and Vibe Service hits the upper mid-tier: friendly, attentive, sometimes downright enthusiastic, though it strains when the place packs out and paths lengthen. Vibe shines best incorporating the courtyard garden—trees, calm, old-town bubble—making you pretend Berlin isn’t so exhausting. Inside, it’s lively and urban, a bit “Travellers’ Choice-tuned” but positively: safe for family, dates, or business without breaking a sweat. Verdict Fischer & Lustig isn’t a secret tip but a deliberately crafted home-cuisine stage in Berlin’s tourist core—yet one where you eat surprisingly well more often than not. Skip if chasing radical produce-driven fare or hardcore fish nerdery; it’s spot-on for reliable “Berlin, but pretty and with labskaus.” The spot you recommend to visitors when you want to serve them honest German food—in polished glasses and Instagram-ready plates.
